A Story of Impact - In our world, an overwhelming amount of clothing ends up discarded. A staggering 86% of post-consumer textiles ultimately find their way into landfills. SCRAP is on a mission to change that. Since its inception in 2020, SCRAP has successfully diverted over 100,000 lbs of clothing and linens from becoming waste.
"We've built an ecosystem to extract value from discarded textiles, beginning with collections from individuals and businesses, and continuing through sorting, sanitizing, reselling, fiber recycling, and remanufacturing new products." - Patrick Metellus, Founder, SCRAP NYC
Patrick Metellus, CEO & Founder of SCRAP, grew up in New York. His mother would collect unwanted clothing and send it to her native Haiti, providing underprivileged children and families in Port-au-Prince with much-needed resources. At the age of 8, a transformative experience planted the seed for Patrick's future endeavors: witnessing his cherished "old" t-shirt find a new life with a young boy of a similar age, bringing him both joy and hope.

Transforming Ideas into Reality: A Guide to Productization for Social Impact Ventures
Fourth Strategies is your gateway to transforming innovative ideas into real-world solutions. We specialize in product marketing for business owners and changemakers who seek to make a profit with a purpose. Productization is the process of unleashing the full potential of your creative concepts. This blog post will explore how social enterprises can leverage the productization process for community revitalization and empowerment.
Using Productization for Economic Impact
In today's digital age, social enterprises require more than just brilliant ideas. Success hinges on creating sustainable products and services that enrich and uplift the communities you serve. Transforming ideas into purpose-driven products demands a strategic approach with a keen focus on community impact and sustainable execution. Here is a step-by-step guide to socially conscious productization:
Step One: Concept Validation
The first step is to focus on validating your concepts, prioritizing social impact before development. Ensure your product aligns with community needs through thorough social impact assessments. Utilize market research and community feedback to confirm that your idea not only fits the market but also addresses key community challenges.
Step Two: Conduct In-Depth Social Impact Research
Understanding the community you serve is crucial for creating meaningful products. Conduct comprehensive research to grasp the social dynamics, needs, and historical challenges of your target community. Analyzing trends and community needs will help ensure that your product effectively addresses the relevant issues in today's world.
Step Three: Prototyping with a Social Lens
Prototyping with a social lens is vital. It allows you to visualize your ideas and gather community feedback before finalizing your Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Use advanced tools to prototype, ensuring your MVP is socially relevant and meets community standards.
Step Four: Socially Conscious Commercialization
When your product is ready for launch, focus on socially conscious commercialization strategies. These include fair pricing, community-focused marketing, and accessible distribution channels. A successful launch hinges on establishing a strong community presence and demonstrating tangible social benefits. Remember, the journey doesn’t end at launch; continuous improvement and community engagement are key to sustained impact.
Continuous Improvement and Community Engagement
Post-launch, it's essential to stay adaptable and responsive to community feedback to ensure sustained impact. Now is the time to act—seize this chance to realize your social entrepreneurial potential. Take advantage of our free 30-minute strategy consultation specifically for purpose-driven entrepreneurs.
